Our Second Camp

Cleft Care Foundation (CCF) proudly organized a multidisciplinary cleft screening camp aimed at providing holistic care for individuals affected by cleft lip and palate conditions. The camp brought together a diverse team of medical and dental specialists, all working in synergy to ensure every patient received personalized attention and expert consultation.

Camp Overview:

This one-day camp was hosted at F-10 Markaz,Islamabad and served as a crucial step in identifying, evaluating, and planning treatment for children and adults with cleft-related conditions. Patients were guided through a structured consultation process involving key specialties relevant to comprehensive cleft care.

Specialists Involved:

• Plastic Surgeon – Provided surgical evaluations for cleft lip and palate repair procedures, discussing treatment timelines and outcomes with families.
• Maxillofacial Surgeon – Assessed facial structure and jaw alignment issues commonly associated with cleft anomalies.
• Orthodontist & Dentists – Evaluated dental development, malocclusions, and hygiene, offering guidance on long-term orthodontic treatment plans.
• ENT Specialist – Screened for ear infections, hearing loss, and nasal obstructions frequently linked with cleft conditions.
• Audiologist – Conducted hearing tests to identify any impairment due to middle ear problems, ensuring early intervention.
• Speech Therapist – Evaluated speech clarity, articulation, and nasal emissions, offering early therapy plans where needed.
• Psychologist/Psychiatrist – Provided emotional and mental health support for both patients and caregivers, addressing the psychological impact of cleft-related challenges.
• Prosthodontist – Consulted on specialized oral prosthetics and pre-surgical appliances to aid feeding and speech.

Impact:

Patients received on-the-spot evaluations, personalized treatment roadmaps, and counseling from experts. Many were scheduled for surgical procedures, while others were enrolled into ongoing care programs that include speech therapy, orthodontic work, and ENT support.

A Model of Integrated Care:

This camp exemplified the team-based approach necessary for successful cleft treatment, where multiple domains of expertise converge to provide a clear path to healing and long-term rehabilitation. Families left informed, supported, and hopeful for their children’s futures.
